FASHION [...] - POP UP EXHIBITIONS!
THE WHITE SIDE
As fear spread some people started becoming prejudice against the identity of ‘Islam’, which often lead into Anti-Islamic views. The main theme explored in my static installation and film is how media driven intolerance of Islam can spread to moral panic. It focuses on how it negatively affects Muslim women the most due to their visible identity and how they can overcome it with faith and courage.
By exploring the body of exhibition and site, I wish to raise the awareness of Islamophobia through fashion and how it displayed on the stage. White dominates most part of the installation to create a statement that symbolizes peace. The weaving of ribbons on the hijab represents Bandage the wounds that are open yet begins to healed. The veil on the face made from silk, that represents the openness and transparency of what Islam actually is. Moreover, this movie is a symbolic statement on how Muslims can take a stand and shines brilliantly, and erases the negative stigma it has on the media.
